Overview
The MillOps Mobile App enables on-the-go data entry and real-time performance tracking for Freeport-McMoRan's mill operations. Designed specifically for frontline operators and supervisors, the tablet-based solution streamlines manual workflows, reduces data errors, and boosts operational visibility across shifts.
Challenge
Manual, paper-based data entry and measurement tracking led to inefficiencies, errors, and limited real-time visibility into mill performance. This hampered throughput, delayed decisions, and contributed to higher operational costs.
Approach
We conducted contextual inquiries, workflow analysis, and collaborative workshops with mill operators and supervisors to understand their day-to-day pain points. From these insights, we co-designed a tablet-based solution that enabled real-time data input, automated performance calculations, and supported seamless shift-to-shift communication through a digital logbook. The app integrated with existing systems to streamline the ecosystem and reduce redundancy.
Outcome
The mobile application eliminated manual entry, reduced paper waste, and significantly improved data accuracy and efficiency. Operators gained immediate visibility into production metrics and could make data-informed decisions faster. The digital logbook fostered better collaboration across shifts, resulting in improved throughput and cost savings. Freeport-McMoRan saw increased ROI, operational sustainability, and a modernized workflow aligned with continuous improvement goals.
